What is..?

What is SuperFly..?

Shortly before standing in front of a lot of people on Saturday (Central Stations Dundee Pop-up event) I was still concerned that the end of what I was going to (try and..) say was going to ‘over think’ the whole process.. ultimately I think it should be enjoyable.. fun!

However, there’s no doubt that in this second incarnation SuperFly turned into a very different beast and I was curious as to what the observing public, particularly those involved in creative arts, would make of it.

I had approached others in advance to try and get to the bottom of what I thought it was.. most notably Eaon Pritchard, Marketing Agitator and, to my mind a Guerilla Advertising ‘Yoda’.. he said this in his Blog, Never Get Out Of The Boat.

Well, while no one was forthcoming when I put the question to the floor, it became apparent as the evening went on that several people had views on what it was about and a few a strong reservations..

There appears to be a divide of sensibilities.. ‘art’ and commercial ‘art’ and mistrust between the two perhaps.. Again, I don’t want to over think ‘what SuperFly is’ – neither are these issues new, but I AM really interested in the issues that are raised as a consequence.

So, I will be posting a more detailed comment based on the conversations that i’ve had but, if you have a view or a comment please, please, this is the place… post them here!

Lindsey Gardiner

I’m originally a textile designer but have a WASPS studio in Dundee where much of my time is spent writing and illustrating children’s books. Any other available time is spent on my drawing and painting or screen printing for my textile label “Quietly Eccentric”.

My work is mostly influenced by my childhood memories, (many disgruntled!), travel experiences, music, pop culture and all things playful. And of course…dogs! I use a combination of oil, acrylic, ink, pencil and collage, on paper or canvas. Anything that’s NOT a computer really, graphite rules!

hellojenuine is Jen Collins, an illustrator who likes making things & looking at what others make. Using a variety of materials, mainly pencil & ink, her work focuses on phrases or imagery that she hopes others can relate to or be inspired by. Working at an arts centre by day & drawing in any spare moment, she wishes there were more hours in a day, or more days in a week, so that she could sit at her desk with a cup of tea & a sketchbook more often.

It’s happened again..!

As flagged up in the previous post Central Station (Central Station is creative social network for people interested in art, film and design..) are coming to visit SuperFly’s home of Dundee on 6th Feb and they’ve entrusted us with looking after Street poster duties. (Thanks once again to Dundee’s Street Advertising Services for sponsoring the space.)

More details will follow shortly but for now, once you’ve checked out the new pics (below), and after you’ve signed up to the SuperFly mailing list get over to Central Station, join the Dundee Pop-up group and get yourself registered for the day’s events.

And if you’d like a cheeky look at a couple of the Dundee Pop-up indoor posters which will be surfacing around the pop-up venues then head over to FormFityFive

I’ll be blogging and tweeting the posters as they ‘pop-up’ around the City.. but, for now, here’s just a teaser.. and if you want to see them in the flesh, here’s where you can find them: Map
